In early 2022, Akshay designed an innovative Mrudangam called the Trimukhi Mrudangam. This unique instrument can be split and is scalable to accommodate nearly all Shruthis. It features a left head and three swappable right heads, making it versatile in its own way. The Trimukhi Mrudangam has received widespread appreciation within the Carnatic music community, with many senior and travelling Vidwans adopting it for concerts due to its compactness, scalability and travel-friendly design.
In 2023, Akshay further advanced this concept by introducing a Fiber Version of the Trimukhi Mrudangam, enhancing its durability and portability while maintaining the quality of sound that musicians appreciate.
The Trimukhi Mrudangam has been officially registered as a “Design” under The Designs Act, 2000 which is protected under the Intellectual Property Rights of the Govt of India.
Akshay has been steadily receiving enquiries and orders for this Mrudangam and he has successfully catered and shipped close to 50 orders in a very short span across the globe.
Akshay Ram was born to Smt. R. Buvaneswari and Shri N. Ramanathan of Chennai in the year 1994. Akshay’s parents are ardent lovers of Carnatic music and hence he was initiated to learning Mrudangam at the tender age of 3. It was also the guidance and blessings of Her Holiness Pujyashree Mathioli R Saraswathy (Founder President of Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust) that Akshay was introduced to Mrudangam.
